TEQGames: Immersive Learning Experiences


TEQGames is creating compelling, immersive learning experiences for students of every age by embedding learning objectives in an entertaining narrative and enhancing the story with virtual world game play and simulation technology. TEQ Games, a Universal Studios Orlando based company, is a collaborative development studio whose core team members include research scientists, theme park creators, film producers, engineers, and educators. The team's strengths in storytelling, scientific research, and pedagogy are key to their ability to bring to light new approaches to learning. Included in the management team are several internationally recognized research scientists and development engineers who are pioneers in the areas of digital media, simulation, training, and game-based learning.

TEQ Games is raising the bar for scalable and sustainable learning experiences through educational gaming based on the following tenets:

  • Change the Equation in Learning. Educational experiences should be focused on the Learner; the Student. If students are not inspired and engaged; the learning experience will not be very effective. Learning is more relevant when students can apply what they are learning to relevant, realistic situations.
  • Story inspires learning. We are "prewired" to learn. We learn because we want to "do" or "know" something, and if we are inspired, there is little we won't do to achieve the "learning" required to meet our goals. In order to inspire, immersive learning experiences have to start with a strong, authentic, and relevant narrative. The story's value is then enhanced through digital media channels that create an interactive experience that engages at many levels.
  • Play engages the learner. Once inspired, students must be engaged in learning experiences that constantly challenge. Well-designed learning environments provide the student a constant challenge with clearly defined objectives. TEQGames programs are designed to establish successive, proximal goals that generate a feeling for students of continuous accomplishment. Likewise, these experiences provide persistent feedback so that players know where they stand.
